Matt went to Seoul, Korea for work the first week of March where he was delivering the U.S. government speech at an international conference on green growth. While there, he had about a day to tour the city and see the sights. In about a day’s time he was able to see the main palace - Gyeongbokgung, a secondary palace - Deoksugung, one of the main buddhist temples and plenty of the city and its neighborhoods.
Seoul was mostly destroyed during the Korean War so a lot of the ancient charm has been lost, but there were still a few medieval allies and street left as well as parts of the old city wall. The best part of Seoul was the food, however, and Matt especially enjoyed the Korean BBQ - bulgogi. Seoul is huge, so Matt only saw the main touristy parts of the city. He did take a cable car up to the top of a mountain in the middle of the city and went to the top of the iconic N Seoul Tower. See the 360 degree view from the top of the N Seoul Tower here.
It was a good trip, but the flight was long. It was a 14 hour direct flight from DC and even in business class it was borderline annoying. Enjoy the pics and if you have the chance, go to your local Korean restaurant and get some BBQ, it beats the 14 hour flight!
